
History
1st Instalment (2010)
The team executed planting the friendship tree which symbolizes the friendship between the volunteers and the students and villagers. Building of toilets and lessons which incorporated Hygiene, Calendar and Card Making.
2nd Instalment (2011)
More renovation works for Ban Phone Ngam Primary and Secondary School. Changing the lightings to help facilitate their studying and holding English lessons that served as a platform to impart basic conversational English to students.
3rd Instalment (2012)
Conducting English lessons for the students of Ban Phone Ngam Primary and Secondary School. Holding IT lessons for the students and teachers. A total of 6 computers were donated to the school.
4th Instalment (2013)
The team challenged themselves to move into the inner villages of Vientiane. Working with Na Phong Village to slowly enhance the learning environment and education facilities at Ban Phone Ngam Primary and Secondary School.
5th Instalment (2014)
Executing the construction of a hall in Na Phong Village. English, Science, Music, Culture, Hygiene and Arts education at Na Saat Secondary School, as well as educating the villagers about recycling and how recycling efforts will help to save their environment.
6th Instalment (2015)
The team challenged themselves as they shifted efforts to a new neighbouring village, Na Saat Village. Refurbishment of the secondary school general office and conducting IT lessons for the teachers, as well as lessons for the students.
7th Instalment (2016)
The team contributed in education and refurbishment of sanitation facilities. The team conducted Arts and Sports lessons in the primary school, aiming to create a more holistic learning experience, and basic English, Chinese and IT lessons in the secondary school.
8th Instalment (2017)
Efforts were focused on the construction of a toilet. English, Math, Geography, Hygiene and Handicraft lessons were also conducted. A 'Singapore Day' was also held to better introduce our cultures.
9th Instalment (2018)
The team was involved in the construction of an administration building and conducted English and Hygiene lessons. 'Sports Day' and Singapore Day' were organised. Introduction of 'Charcoal Day', learning how charcoal is made and how it is a livelihood in the village, in efforts to promote an all-rounded trip.
10th Instalment (2019)
Lesson plans were curated and activities were organized for the students and villagers. However, with the restrictions brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, the 10th instalment was unable to be executed fully.
11th Instalment (2021)
With the onset of the pandemic, the project transited onto a virtual platform and conducted carefully curated lessons on topics such as Conversational English, Financial Literacy, Personal Branding and Job Seeking Skills for participants aged 18-24 years old. The team and the Laotian participants also participated in a cultural exchange to better understand each others' lives.
12th Instalment (2022)
Due to border restrictions, the project was still being carried out on a virtual platform. We curated interactive and engaging lessons on topics such as Conversational English (including resume writing), Financial Literacy, Hospitality, and Cultural sharing for Laotians aged 18-24 years old. We got to give them a virtual school tour and sightseeing of Singapore's iconic places. We have all learnt so much from this experience and hope to bring the 13th Instalment to Laos should restrictions be lifted.
13th Instalment (2024 Summer)
We held our first in-person OCSP since the onset of Covid-19. Our team focused on constructing sanitation facilities for student use at Pak Xueng Secondary School and provided education on Sustainability, Health, English, and Art. We also organized a cultural exchange day, allowing us to better understand and appreciate each other's cultures.
14th Instalment (2024 Winter)
Following the continuation of in-person OCSP, our team will be embarking on empowering the lives of the students at Na Xath village, in Vientiane province through education and activities focusing on Sustainability. The various Museum and workshop learning journeys will also allow us to have deepened understanding and appreciation of the Laos culture.
